Activations
In astrology, a Conduction is applied to an activation of a Key, forming a crucial part of understanding the timing of personal influences. A Key is a specific point in the birth chart viewed through the lens of time. For example, if you were born with the Sun at 16° Virgo, your Sun Key consists of all the moments in your life when a slow-moving celestial body—from Jupiter outward—aligns with or comes near 16° Virgo. These slow-moving planets are called Activators because their presence at key positions in the zodiac signals important phases of development and transformation.
Every time an Activator such as Jupiter reaches 16° Virgo, it creates an entry in the Sun Key, marking an Activation of that key by Jupiter. Since Jupiter takes about 11 to 12 years to complete its orbit, these activations happen at predictable intervals, approximately once every 11 to 12 years. Similarly, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto will also activate the Sun key at different times throughout a lifetime, creating a personal timeline of major influences. This timeline extends from birth to roughly 100 years, forming a chronology of major planetary Activations that shape personal experience.
The duration of an Activation depends on the speed of the Activator. Jupiter, the fastest of the slow-moving planets, influences a Key for only a few months, whereas Pluto, the slowest, can influence a Key for several years. This period of influence is known as the window of opportunity—the timeframe in which an Activation is at work and during which a conduction can be applied. A Conduction is a method of working with Activations intentionally and consciously, aligning personal effort with astrological timing.
Each Activator has a different window of opportunity. Jupiter's influence lasts 1-2 months on either side of its exact conjunction with a Key, while Saturn extends 3-4 months. Chiron's influence lasts 4-6 months, Uranus for 6-12 months, Neptune for 1-2 years, and Pluto for 2-3 years. These periods fluctuate slightly in practice, but one consistent observation is that an Activation is strongest just before and during the exact conjunction, gradually diminishing afterward.
The length of time a Conduction can be applied depends on the Activation's window. However, it is generally advised to work with whole cycles: one month for lunar or Magnetic conduction and one year for solar or Electric conduction. Working within these full cycles generates accumulated energy or astrologically charged "volts," creating a more powerful and coherent engagement with the Activation. By aligning personal action with these natural rhythms, Activations provide a structured way to navigate the unfolding of one's life journey through astrology.
